"A complex but beautiful love story that will not be easily forgotten..."
Montana, 1876 Lawyer Dillon Wolf, eldest grandson of Charley Crying Wolf,
carries a lot of anger in his heart. He is determined to
put a stop to the excavation at the Little Big Horn
Battleground. Tired of having his people taken advantage
of all the time, and cheated out of their heritage and
history by those who only want to feather their own
pockets, Dillon is working with the law to stop the thefts
that have been occurring recently. However, a freak
traffic accident leaves Dillon injured and in the hospital
where he slips into a coma which leaves the medical staff
baffled. Anthropologist Ryan Burke is very excited about having the
opportunity to be involved in an excavation dig at Little
Big Horn Battleground but once there, she is receives
contempt from Dr. Gaffney, head of the project. The reason
being that her application for the position didn't show her
gender as female and in Dr. Gaffney's eyes, females are
nothing but incompetent and a complete disruption to
serious hard work. The rest of the staff appears very warm
and friendly though, along with Buddy Crying Wolf, the
young man who looks after the camp. When someone mentions
that artifacts are being stolen from the dig, Ryan begins
to question what she has gotten herself into. Aside from
her knowledge of the Lakota language, Ryan also understands
and respects the customs of the tribe. Then her tent is
washed away in a storm and Charley Crying Wolf, Buddy's
grandfather gives her a tipi to use. A magical tipi that
sweeps her away into the past where she meets a fierce and
handsome Lakota warrior named Wolf and love blossoms once
again between two souls who recognize each other
instantly. Together, Wolf and Ryan set a trap to catch the
culprit who is stealing the artifacts from the site.
However, before the culprit is caught, the two lovers face
great peril and anguish. Did they find each other only to
suffer the agony of loss once more? Is their love strong
enough to survive the passage of time? I've always loved reading Native American romances and I
truly enjoyed this one too. It's been a long time since a
story touched me this way. You know, that secret place
deep inside your heart where stories sometimes leave a
residue of their beauty and emotions. Judie Aitken's A
LOVE BEYOND TIME has left an impression, a feeling, an
impact that will not be soon forgotten. The time travel theme was wonderfully portrayed and all the
descriptions certainly created a vivid and believable
backdrop for the story. I found myself warming to both
main characters within moments of meeting them. Ms. Aitken
blends historical facts and romance with some fantastic
narration about Native American magic that is bound to
leave readers spellbound. The book is beautifully written
and I found the plot to be very refreshing and unique. A LOVE BEYOND TIME is a complex tale, rich in emotions and
characterizations that will satiate readers who enjoy
intellectually stimulating reads. If you're in the mood to
escape to a world of fierce and proud warriors, a world
where love does stand the test of time, a world of lore and
magic, then A LOVE BEYOND TIME is one book you simply must
read. Elena Channing ***HEART BEAT AWARD***
