REVIEW

"The Divine Babysitter"

Can a divorced bartender with a child convince a mature student that she's not a man-hungry female, trying to meet as many men as she can? Dominique is a strong character who goes after what she wants. At the moment she wants a higher paying job and to make a life with her son, Kalvin. When Joshua Divine arrives for his interview for the babysitting job, he is definitely divine! Dom couldn't believe that someone who looked like Joshua and at his age would be willing to take such a low paying job. Josh needs this job to get practice for his university degree in child psychology. It's perfect for him. Josh can work during the evening, and go to classes in the daytime. It's attraction at first sight for Dom and Josh. Though Josh gives the impression that he likes Dom, there is something there that Dom can't quite put her finger on. Dom doesn't realize that it's her job that Josh doesn't like. He doesn't think to discuss the problem, but blames her job for his feelings about her. He can't separate the job from the woman. When the relationship develops in spite of him, he gets almost teary when Dom turns him down.

I enjoyed the premise of the book, although some of the characters weren't terribly realistic. Kalvin doesn't act like any five year I know! There are not many 5 year olds that do everything promptly when asked, and never use the 'No' word. There is a strong female main character, which I like; the male character however is quite nice, but sort of wimpy. He almost acts like he was going to cry at one point. There is nothing wrong with men crying; I don't think that when Dom turns him down, it was the right place and time. Some of the secondary characters were well done. Over all, this book was enjoyable!
