"Romantic suspense at it's most suspenseful!"
I'm a huge fan of Dee Davis. I have thoroughly
enjoyed every book that she's ever written. I devour her
books much to my chagrin. Her books are not conducive to
savoring. MIDNIGHT RAIN is one such book! Jonathan Brighton finally goes on a vacation to
Mexico at his brother Danny's insistence much against his
better judgment. On the road to a client's mountain
retreat, he's carjacked, shot in the head and left for dead. Six months later, John Brighton is a changed man
with a bullet still lodged in his brain. His memory is
sketchy at best. He's finally getting out of the hospital
but he has to take a physical therapist home with him for a
while. Kate Cavanaugh really isn't a physical therapist.
She's undercover for the FBI checking out John Brighton.
It seems one of his employees, Derek Miller, has been found
shot in the head. It's seems he's been dead for about six
months and John was the last person to see him alive. It's up to Kate to try to find out what John
remembers and what he doesn't. The more she finds out, the
more confusing everything gets. Things get pretty ugly when
John finds out that she's FBI but can she convince him that
she's there to help? There's much more to the story than
she or John knows so can they figure it all out before
things get out of hand? I read this book in a matter of hours. The more I
read the less I knew. Every guess I made as to who the
villain was, I was wrong. I never figured it out and never
found out who until the very last chapter! This is
romantic suspense at it's very best and Dee Davis is the
master!

SummaryFor undercover FBI agent Katie Cavanaugh this was supposed
to be a routine job-go in, get the evidence, catch a
killer. But from the moment she lays eyes on John Brighton
the intense charge in the air between them lets her know
that the stakes will be higher this time around. Posing as
his physical therapist allows Katie first-hand access to
him but she can't let the intimacy of living together cloud
her judgment. She will need her instincts sharp if she is
going to find him guilty...or prove his innocence.
Left for dead along a deserted highway, John awakes to find
himself physically weakened, mentally scarred, and the lead
suspect in a murder investigation. The only bright point in
his life is Katie, warm and beautiful, she is the one
person he thinks he can trust. But as a net of suspicion
closes in, and as loyalties divide, John and Katie must
work together to unravel the maze of secrets and lies that
threaten to keep them apart forever...
