REVIEW

"Another satisfying aviation romance from Susan Grant"

When United Airlines Flight 58 runs into what they believe is a thunderstorm out over the Pacific, nobody on board suspects that their lives are about to take a drastic turn, not even First Officer Jordan Cady. But Jordan is the first to realize that this was no storm, and that their plane has been swallowed by something much larger than it is. Fearing some sort of a terrorist attack, and unexpectedly placed in charge of almost three hundred passengers, she orders the crew to barricade themselves and the passengers inside the plane and begin to devise a means of self defense as they wait for whoever is out there to make contact. Jordan wonders if she will ever see her daughter "Boo" again.

Meanwhile, on board the starcruiser Savior, Kào Vantaar-Moray is informed by his adopted father and ship's commander, Ilya Moray, that he is to be put in charge of the group of refugees who are the only survivors of the destruction of the newly discovered planet, Earth. Kào, a former lieutenant in the Alliance Space Force, is still recovering from two years as a prisoner of the Talagars, a barbaric slave trading people at war with the Alliance. Although somewhat of a loner, Kào can in some way relate to these displaced people, as he was orphaned by war when he was only three years old. However, what starts out to be a simple task of relocating the survivors to new quarters on the Savior becomes much more complicated when the refugees not only refuse to come out of their plane, but actually launch an attack against him and his guards!

Once contact is established between Jordan and Kào, things begin to really get complicated. What will become of the survivors, where will they be re-located, and will they be safe from the Talagars? Torn between Jordan's responsibility to her people, Kào's to his father, and their growing feelings for each other, these two must face some difficult decisions.

Author Susan Grant lends her own unique perspective and expertise as a former Air Force officer and a current airline pilot to her aviation themed romances. With her words, she made this reader feel as if she were on board that doomed plane, facing terror along with Jordan and the rest of the crew and passengers (well, OK I really was there...sort of). She stacked the odds so highly against Jordan and Kào that I didn't know how she could give them their happy ending, but I had faith in her, and sure enough, together they faced danger, unknown enemies, and personal loss; and together they lived happily ever after!
