REVIEW

"This book had me glued to my seat!"

Simon Keller is given the greatest opportunity he's ever had. His mentor, Dr. Phillip Norton approaches him to write a book about former President Graham Hayward. Hayward was touted as the most moral and honest President that ever lived. Simon agrees when Dr. Norton sweetens the pot by offering a two-book deal and a large advance.

Simon starts digging and comes up with some very interesting facts when he visits Miles Kendall, Graham's very best friend, in the nursing home. Miles has Alzheimer's and has good days and bad days. When Miles starts telling Simon about Blythe Pearce, the woman Graham was in love with, red flags start flying. Simon feels there's more to the story and digs even deeper.

Then Simon finds out that Blythe was a victim of a hit and run accident. This seems very fishy to him so he visits Betsy Pearce, Blythe's sister. Betsy tells Simon about Blythe's best friend, Jude McDermott and tells Simon that he must talk with her. She gives Simon a photo album and purposely puts a loose photo of Blythe and their father in the album hoping that Simon will snitch the photo. Simon takes the bait just as Betsy plans.

When Simon goes to visit Jude, he cannot find her but meets her daughter, Dina, who just happens to be the spitting image of Blythe. The story becomes more and more curious. When he finally does meet Jude, she won't talk to him and practically throws him out of the house but he assures her that he will be back. Will Simon get to the bottom of this story? What will happen to Dina if this story gets out?

I was simply glued to this book. The villain was a total surprise to me until the very end of the book. I had my suspicions but Mariah Stewart wrote this book in such a way that I could only guess at who was responsible for the threat to Dina's life. There was nothing about this book I didn't enjoy. As always, I eagerly look forward to Mariah Stewart's next romantic suspense!
