REVIEW

"Historical Regency crackles with excitement, adventure, and strong characters"

When Lady Alissa Collington discovers she has only one week to marry to fulfill the provisions of her grandfather's will, she will do anything and marry anyone to save her home and family from living a pauper's life. Alissa has not lacked for suitors over the years, but unfortunately all have suffered physical harm while pursuing a courtship with her. When she asks her friend, Sir Thomas Lane, to marry her he is killed by highwaymen. In an attempt to meet new prospects, Alissa packs up her grandmother, Lady Ellen and blind nephew, Robin, to travel to London for the Season.

Through a chance of fate, war hero Major Michael Mathers, Viscount Kantwell, saves Alissa's life and becomes intrigued with her quest, despite his own weariness with life. Although the Major never intends to marry because of his crippled left arm, an injury he suffered in the Peninsular War, he enlists the help of several friends, all members of the 'Lucky Seven' officers from the war, to court Alissa. To his dismay, Michael discovers that he is unable to remain aloof from Alissa and her troubles, especially after he meets her odious Uncle Gerald who stands to inherit if she fails to marry within the one-week deadline.

This is the third in the author's 'Lucky Seven' historical Regency series and it crackles with excitement as Alissa, Michael, Lady Ellen, Robin, and other characters from the first two books in the series unite to save the Collington estate. Highwaymen, kidnapping, and chases make this a fast-paced adventure that also features strong characters (Alissa is no wimp!). Readers looking for a quick, satisfying Regency will enjoy this book!
