"An interesting read!"
Hannah Benning was trained by her father to be the
best crook there could be. When he was lynched, Hannah
found her way to a convent ready to become a nun. Then one
night when she, another nun and the priest go to the prison
to see why new graves were being dug, Hannah's life changes
forever. It seems a so-called doctor, Warden Briggs and
Titus the guard have a deal whereby the doctor injects
prisoners with his cure-all solution he calls Fenwick's
Solution and sees how it makes the prisoners react. Most
of the prisoners injected don't make it. While Briggs decides what to do with the three
interlopers from the Convent, Quinn Landry escapes from his
hole of a cell and takes Hannah prisoner. It seems he was
wrongfully accused of killing his sister-in-law and was
tried and sent to the New Mexico Penitentiary all in a
matter of two weeks, four years before. All Quinn wants to do is get back to Texas and
figure out who set him up and why. Before he escapes
Briggs injects him with some of the Fenwick Solution.
Hannah can do nothing but try to help Quinn. It's not her
nature to let someone suffer. The longer she and Quinn are
in each other's company the more they come to care for each
other. Quinn doesn't want this to happen because he has to
clear his name and he knows that Hannah is nearly a nun. Pam Crooks doesn't pull any punches with this book.
She tells it just like it was in the old west. It was
harsh and sometimes unfair. Even though Quinn and Hannah
had it rough through the whole book they never let anything
get them down. They knew what they wanted and they did
everything to see that what they wanted happened. This
culminated into a gloriously happy ending! I highly
recommend this one!
