"A lively romp!"
I started reading this book knowing full well I
needed to balance the checkbook. Once I read the first
page, I realized the checkbook would have to wait. Lady Althea Candler or "Thea" meets William
Cavendar,
Marquess of Hartingfield or Hart under very unusual
circumstances. It seems she's wearing her oldest dress and
is chasing one of her father?s prized pigs through the
house. Her father doesn?t know that she's named the pig
Uncle Egbert and has made him a pet. Hart mistakes her for
the parlor maid and has the audacity to attempt to kiss her. When Thea and Hart find out that they are being
thrown together at the whim of their fathers, they resist
but the more they are in each other's company the more
relaxed each becomes with the other. Thea thinks she wants
to marry someone she can control and Hart wants a biddable
wife. Will things ever work between them? There are other
forces working against their ever getting together but that
only makes the story all the more interesting! I must admit I generally don't read regencies but
this delightful romp was a joy to read. I simply couldn't
put it down and read it in a matter of hours. This book
has made me decide that I need to give regencies another
chance. I believe Kathy Carmichael could write anything and
I'd read it!
