REVIEW

"Romance between an M.D. and a social worker"

Dr. Brendan O'Connor, a neonatologist, and San Antonio Memorial staff social worker Cassie Allen have been friends for six months now. During that time they have enjoyed playing tennis, and discussing their cases and their workdays with each other. As their friendship grows stronger every day, each of them begins to think of the other in a different way, she with love and he with lust. They know they have to hide their feelings from each other because they don't want to take the risk of losing what they have.

Then Brendan begins to show signs of anxiety. Cassie is worried about him, but doesn't know what the problem is. One night, after battling to save the life of one of his small, premature patients, Brendan tells Cassie of his own tragic past and turns to her for comfort. Unfortunately, birth control is forgotten in their moment of passion. Now Cassie and Brendan face the decision of whether or not to marry because Cassie is pregnant. And if they do, will such a marriage work?

DR. DESTINY is the third title in Ms. Gold's Marrying An M.D. series. I enjoyed most of the story. I liked the fact that Brendan and Cassie had a history of friendship together, and were willing to try to be responsible and work things out. However, once they got together they seemed to lose their ability to communicate, and Cassie especially seemed to become less reasonable, and became rather insecure and demanding. I was hopeful that this was due to the stress of pregnancy. I was relieved when Cassie did manage to get herself together. She once again became the reasonable woman I had thought her to be, and the reconciliation and conclusion were satisfying.
