"Viking, Take Me Away"
I really enjoy Sandra Hill's writing style. She throws in
a ton of humor, mixes it with some romance and sex, and
the end result is "whoa". One of the passages in this book
really had me smiling. I'm not quoting verbatim but you
will get the gist. "You came into my life like a lightning bolt...bringing
sunshine where there was only darkness." Joy Nelson is a psychologist who, after the death of her
brother, makes a decision to join the ranks of Navy WEALS
(the women's Navy SEALS program). While on a mission, she
is thrust from the 21st century to the 10th century
Norselands in the year 955 after an explosion. When she
awakens from the effects of the blast she finds herself
ready to be autioned off as a thrall (Norse word for
concubine, love slave, etc.). She's purchased as a present by two brothers, Erland and
Arniss, of a Viking warlord by the name of Brandr. Brandr
is a dark haired, gorgeous hunk of Norseman. Joy is no
fluffy demure chick. She tells it like it she sees it and
doesn't abide what anyone thinks. I like her character.
But Brandr is totally not used to her, let's say,
communication style. The back and forth banter between Brandr and Joy during
the process of falling in love is quite funny. The sex
scenes are described explicitly and are done very well.
There are some parts in this book that didn't wow me. It
slowed a bit here and there. But I'd still recommend it.

SummaryJoy Nelson joins the female Navy SEALS in a fit of
depression over the death of her POW brother. Then she
finds herself shot back in time to the cold, cold Norselands
where she is auctioned off as a slave to a Viking warlord.
What fun! This Norseman doesn't know what hit him.
