"Fast paced, action packed 5th book in the Jack Daniels mystery series."
I give this book 5 stars, even though the author is a
sadistic man of the first order who has written a
cliffhanger that will drive a lot of readers crazy as they
wait for his next book.
This is the 5th book in Mr. Konrath's "Jack" Daniels
mysteries. Each book is titled after a drink, and
inside in the beginning of each book Mr. Konrath is kind
enough to give you the recipe for the titled drink. What
he doesn't tell you is that you will feel the need to
have one of those drinks to settle your nerves as
you read his books. Konrath's books are action packed, and
I find my self out of breath by the end of some chapters
as I try to keep up with his fast pace.
If you have never read Mr. Konrath, I strongly advise you
to read them in order as each book picks up where the last
one stopped. Satire and dark humor abound in his books,
and I love them one and all -- even though I would love to
wring his neck for the ending on this one!

The next eight hours will be the worst of Jack's life. And
that's saying something.
SummaryThings are going well for Lieutenant Jacqueline "Jack"
Daniels of the Chicago Police Department. She has solved
some of the city's toughest and most high-profile
homicides. Her personal life is finally in order. Her
friends and family are safe and happy. And she just got a
call that eased her mind like nothing else could: Alex
Kork, one of the most dangerous criminals Jack ever
arrested, killed herself while in jail.
But things sour quickly when a group of vigilantes on a
murderous spree decide to take down a cop and the people
she cares about ... and they turn downright awful when
Jack discovers that Kork may not be dead after all.
