REVIEW

"In a word: WOW!"

I have to start out this review with the word WOW! Lara Adrian's take on the vampire myth is intriguing. She doesn't pretty it up or mince words! Breeds are who they are and they don't care what humans think of them. They are massive hunks of pure testosterone and are bad to the bone except when it comes to their breedmates. Then they turn into virtual pussycats!

This is the story of Gen One Lucan Thorne, leader of the local pack of Breeds. They all are just one bite shy of turning Rogue and will do anything to stop it. That's why they hunt and destroy Rogues. Rogues in the throes of bloodlust don't care who sees them and can jeopardize the whole Breed race to extinction.

Gabrielle Maxwell has always known she was different but she had no idea how different she really was until she witnesses a gristly murder in the alley behind a club one evening and can get no one to help her. That is until she meets Lucan Thorne. Lucan is drawn to Gabrielle even when he discovers her breedmate tattoo on her neck. He knows there is no way he can make her his own because that means total commitment. The only thing he is committed to is destroying Rogues.

Gabrielle cannot understand what is happening to her and why she is so drawn to the cold forbidding Lucan. She is a loner and doesn't need any kind of commitment especially with someone like him.

I am totally fascinated with this Breed of vampires and Lara Adrian's take on them. Unfortunately for me I read this book in a matter of hours. It was gritty and hard edged but I simply could not get enough of the story. I want a Breed of my own! I eagerly look forward to more Breed stories! Lara Adrian cannot write them fast enough for me!!

Summary

He watches her from across the crowded dance club, a sensual black-haired stranger who stirs Gabrielle Maxwell's deepest fantasies. But nothing about this night—or this man—is what it seems. For when Gabrielle witnesses a murder outside the club, reality shifts into something dark and deadly. In that shattering instant she is thrust into a realm she never knew existed—a realm where vampires stalk the shadows and a blood war is set to ignite.

Lucan Thorne despises the violence carried out by his lawless brethren. A vampire himself, Lucan is a Breed warrior, sworn to protect his kind—and the unwitting humans existing alongside them—from the mounting threat of the Rogues. Lucan cannot risk binding himself to a mortal woman, but when Gabrielle is targeted by his enemies, he has no choice but to bring her into the dark underworld he commands.

Here, in the arms of the Breed's formidable leader, Gabrielle will confront an extraordinary destiny of danger, seduction, and the darkest pleasures of all. . . .
