REVIEW

"Callan Kilkenny's story and what a story it is!"

Susan Squires can take the most unlikely and undeserving character and turn him into a bona-fide hero! This is just what she's done with Callan Kilkenny. For those readers who read THE BURNING, they may recall that Callan had been defeated in a battle with Stephen Sencai. Stephen destroyed Callan's army but refused to destroy him.

Now Callan has decided to seek out the doctor who supposedly is looking for a cure to this horrible virus in his blood. When he finally finds where Dr. Blundell lives, he arrives just in time to save him from an ancient vampire who doesn't want a cure to be found. Callan also realizes why Dr. Blundell is looking for a cure. It seems his daughter Jane was also infected with The Companion. Callan tells Dr. Blundell and Jane he will help but only if he is cured once and for all. He just wants to forget all of the horror he's known in his life and thinks that being cured will be the answer.

Callan knows that more vampires will come to try and destroy Dr. Blundell and his studies because they don't want a cure to be found. He also knows it is still the born against the made with the born trying to destroy as many of the made as possible. Can he help the doctor and his daughter without getting emotionally involved especially when he finds out that Jane being turned was a total accident and one for which she had no say.

I have yet to read any book of Susan Squires' that I did not totally become engrossed in reading. It is the same way with this one. I have one huge problem with all of Susan's books and that is I find myself compelled to read them much too quickly. As always, I eagerly await the next book!

Summary

Far from the glittering lights and shallow bustle of 1822 London lies another world—a realm of shadows and secrets, where desire holds dominion and passion knows no limit.

ONE DESIRE
Jane Blundell's keen intellect and wit have always set her apart from her marriage-minded peers. But such differences are nothing compared to the change that comes upon her when she is infected by a blood sample in her father's laboratory. Suddenly, her veins resonate with a terrifying, exhilarating power. Dr. Blundell takes Jane to the Scottish highlands where she collides with the only man who can understand her hunger—and slake her unending desire.

ONE DESTINY
Callan Kilkenny has returned to England from Marrakech, still filled with self-loathing at the deeds he committed in the name of a beautiful, depraved vampire. Now that he has tracked down Dr. Blundell in hopes of a cure he has also found a kindred spirit in Jane. Her passion and her blood calls to Callan, fueling a carnal need that shocks them both with its intensity. But others have come in search of the cure, too—for reasons that are sinister and deadly. And to save Jane and the rest of their kind, Callan must risk everything—even his last chance at redemption.
