REVIEW

"Excellent Civil War Romance"

The American Civil War, was not one of America's finest moments. The cost was high in human life sometimes pitting brother against brother. Ultimately, North versus South would have no bearing between two people who would discover a love that would defy the boundaries set by war hungry politicians.

Yankee Captain David Reynolds of the 17th Pennsylvania Cavalry was devoted to his men, leading them from one battle to another fully prepared to die for what he believed in. During the battle of Mine Run, he would be severely wounded and his stalwart horse Napoleon would take him miles from the battle and David would discover an angel and a reason for living.

Hearing distant sounds of the war surrounding her, Jennifer Winston of Pleasant Run Manor, in Danton, Virginia was wary of approaching the obviously wounded Yankee soldier on the frightened stallion. Enemy or not she knew she must do whatever she could to save him. With a tremendous leap of faith, courage and strength, she took a huge risk in hiding the enemy and caring for his wounds. It wasn't that he was handsomer than of her current beaus, but something indefinable had brought these two souls together on a journey that would be both perilous and glorious for them both.

*** In a tone reminiscent of Gone With the Wind, this debut author chronicles a deeply moving romantic adventure, that will make you both laugh and cry. The author writes with a very distinct voice in a compelling story that has been thoroughly researched and brought to life with vivid imagery and mature characterizations. Though the story has been told many times of the brutality of Americans fighting one another it still has the power to pull you in when told with a new voice, perspective, and the thorough enjoyment of placing a beautiful romance as the focus to counteract the brutality of war. The writing is fresh, spontaneous, yet controlled and focused. Ms. Wylie has written a superb debut book showcasing a budding talent that I will be watching for in years to come. I was thoroughly entertained and totally enjoyed this fabulous novel that I recommend for lovers of American Civil War romantic adventures.
