"A Sweet Debut"
Elizabeth Edwards has just found out her fiancé is heading
to the front line of the war and when he asks her to
consummate their relationship instead of saying yes...she
says no...it's the smartest thing she's ever done. She
leaves England and her heartbreak behind and head to
Boston. Her she will stay with her grandparents and
hopefully find the balance she needs a man to love. When
her grandmother suggests that she answer a mail order bride
advertisement from Broken Bow, Nebraska she does with
startling results. It comes just at the right time since
Elizabeth knows she has a stalker who is going to do what
he must to return her to London and the fiancé who wants
her back. Graham Ballard needs a wife and companion. He places an
advertisement in Boston for a bride and is intrigued when
he receives an answer from Elizabeth. This begins a
correspondence between them and he issues an invitation to
her to come and see if they will suit. Unbeknownst to him
she is already on her way and when she arrives...Elizabeth
is more then he could have wished for...but he is gun shy
his first wife found him and his lifestyle wanting. Will
Elizabeth...the daughter of and Earl be able to find
happiness with a farmer? Time will only tell but first they
will have to get past someone who wants them to fail...and
they won't pull any punches. This debut effort by Ms. Fairchild is a sweet, poignant
read peppered with interesting and endearing characters.
Ms. Fairchild has brought the early 1900's to life and it
was a joy to visit her make believe world. I eagerly look
forward to the sequel of this charming tale.
