"A quick and pleasurable read"

The Mad Elder Veriel has just slaughtered some of the men of Rober Kaufman's family. They were protecting Lady Caitrina from the beasts but failed in the worst possible way. By the side of his dying brother is Jacquine, beloved maid and friend to her lady, yet left behind when Caitrina joined the Beast. Now Rober offers Jacquine the protection of his family, as she needs it more then anything else just now. But there is more he desires of her. She is the one to be his mate, his lover, his life. If only he can convince her of that...

This is yet another enjoyable read from the pen of Brenna Lyons. Short, yet hot enough to singe the pages, one will be sucked right in to the tale. Rober and Jacquine are drawn to each other from the first, even in the midst of tragedy, and the attraction between them is intense. It builds slowly, though not too slow due to the length of the book, concluding in a passionate joining that will leave readers looking for an ice cold drink... or a willing partner.

For the most part, this is a stand alone read, though it would be helpful to at least read My Fair Caitrina and Veriel's Tales, other books in the Night Warriors series. This reviewer had not yet read ether of those, but can see how they would be beneficial to readers of this one, as they expand on some of the characters who are key catalysts to this story, though only playing a minor role. Even not having read the other related stories, one will be able to follow along quite well, since the focus is on Rober and Jacquine, rather hen the others.

If readers are looking for a quick and pleasurable read, then this story will fit the bill quite well.

Summary

Rober started off using Jacquine as bait to trap the Mad Deceiver and avenge his brother's death, but printing could not be denied. Now, he has to convince her to be his mate or face breaking printing. If Veriel shows his face, Rober is ready to meet him, madman to madman.
