REVIEW

"An Exciting Werewolf Tale"

Dr. Johanna Schell's mission in life is to help people. She and her father had run a mental institution in Philadelphia. They moved to the west coast bringing several of their special people with them. Her father had a stroke, so that he is incapacitated and she is left to take care of everyone. On her way home from a trip to San Francisco, she finds an inebriated man seemingly near death. She brings him home hoping to help him.

Quentin is loup-garou (werewolf). He also has a split personality. In the guise of Quentin, he is a kind and gentle man but his alter ego is extremely violent. Can Dr. Johanna help him? Quentin is attracted to the lovely doctor in both of his personalities. She uses hypnosis in order to help her handsome new patient. When he tells her he is loup-garou, she thinks he is having delusions. It is interesting that he seems to have an effect on the people living at The Haven - they seem to be getting better. Johanna tries very hard to be unaffected by the flirtatious Quentin. He is very attracted to the no-nonsense doctor and starts to believe that maybe she really can help him. He knows that he has amnesiac episodes but has no recollection of what happens during those periods of his life.

SECRET OF THE WOLF is a fascinating new novel by the very talented Susan Krinard. This is the best one yet. Quentin is charming, tender and a very tortured hero. His alter ego is the exact opposite (a real Jeckel and Hyde character). He wants so badly to be something better than he is and finally Johanna is giving him hope and love. He is a wonderful sensitive character and Dr. Johanna is pragmatic, very loving and caring. The inmates of the Haven are interesting - some you love and a few you love to hate. The double personality was of special interest and Ms. Krinard was able to resolve it all satisfactorily with a very exciting ending. If you enjoy a good werewolf tale, you are sure to enjoy this one. Susan Krinard can really make the loup-garou intriguing and believable.
