"A griping blend of intrigue and spirits with the answers."
Harper and her step brother Tolliver travel the country
finding dead bodies. Harper was struck by lightning and
every since she can locate dead people that are missing.
Not only can she locate them but she can tell how they
died. Most people are uncomfortable around Harper and don't
really understand what she does. Tolliver travels with her
protecting her and providing a shoulder to lean on.
Harper is in a little town of Sarne deep in the Ozarks to
find a body of a young girl that was the girl friend of
dead teenage boy. It is thought that he killed her and
then shot himself. The boy's mother wants her son's name
cleared and sees Harper as a way to do just that. It
should be a simple job. In and out of town fast with the
check cashed for a job well done. Only it doesn't work
out that way. Every time they are ready to leave town
something else happens to delay their departure. Then
another woman is murdered and someone tries to kill
Harper. Tolliver is arrested on a trumped up charge and
that leaves Harper unprotected and an easy target.
A fast paced read and very enjoyable.

SummaryHarper Connelly has what you might call a strange job: she
finds dead people. She can sense the final location of a
person who's passed, and share their very last moment. The
way Harper sees it, she's providing a service to the dead
while bringing some closure to the livingbut she's
used to most people treating her like a blood-sucking leech.
Traveling with her step-brother Tolliver as manager and
sometime-bodyguard, she's become an expert at getting in,
getting paid, and getting out fast. Because for the living
it's always urgenteven if the dead can wait forever.
