REVIEW

"A short, easy read, that is not lacking in heat or character growth"

Readers of the Night Warriors series will certainly recognize the hero here, who depicts the tarot card Knight of Swords quite well.

Adam Maher has been hand-picked for a special duty by his House Lord. He must take Dr. Joanne Wright under his protection. She had been with the König-Crossbearer house, but had to leave. The Beasts are especially fond of taking out the warriors' healers, hoping to hit their enemies where it hurts most, so her security and protection is a number one priority. Jo had her own reasons for leaving Crossbearer range though and the last thing she wants is for Adam to discover her reasons. Adam is struck by her unexpectedly and finds that he may be the one needing protection... for his heart.

Brenna Lyons has written yet another short hot read with tons of character growth built in. One thing that strikes this reviewer about her works is that Ms. Lyons always manages to give full development to the story line and the characters. No matter how short or long, readers are guaranteed to get a fulfilling read. It takes a lot of skill to do this within the limited word count of a short story, but this author pulls it off brilliantly.

Adam has been in previous stories, and has always come across as a gruff, takes no nonsense kind of man, with a strong will and even stronger pride. In this story, we see more of him. He's just as tough and opinionated as always, but meets his match in Jo. Joanne has been hurt before, and quite recently by another warrior so she's cautious and abrupt with Adam from the moment they meet. Yet at the same time, sparks fly between these two so hot that there's no escaping the conflagration that consumes them. These two are meant to be together, and a perfect match in every way. Readers will enjoy the journey these two take before discovering this for themselves.

If readers want a short, easy read, that is not lacking in heat or character growth, and has a strong plot, then The Black Knight is a book to buy.

Summary

Adam is inflexible, abrasive, and full of himself. Jo is -- completely unimpressed. Too bad, because Adam never backs down when he sees something he wants. Jo wants nothing more than to dump the warrior Kord assigned to her, but ditching one of the Maher trackers isn't as easy as one might believe. Adam Maher is one of the most infuriating men Jo has ever met. So, why can't she get him out of her mind?
