"A thought provoking romance"
Casey still loves Jack Arnett. Still, she serves him with
divorce papers and leaves LA to move to the small town
where she grew up. The reason is because Jack refuses to
have a baby. Once Casey gets home, she shocked to discover she's
pregnant. How can she tell Jack? Should she tell Jack?
Eventually, at eight months pregnant, she has no choice.
She calls Jack for help. It seems like there is a prowler
on the loose and he's targeting Casey. Jack, who formerly
worked for the LAPD and now owns his own private
investigation company, comes running. He's more shocked
than Casey was when she first learned about baby Diane. Casey assures Jack that she's quite capable of caring for
herself and the baby and doesn't expect anything from
him. But, sparks still fly between the two and, slowly,
Jack gets used to the idea that he's going to be a daddy.
He even finds himself completely turned on by Casey
despite her huge size. Jack works with local residents to
unearth the perp. While doing so, he comes to realize how
much he's missed by never having lived in a small town.
Still, he can't wait to get back to LA and his flourishing
business. Casey is determined to convince Jack to stay. But, it
doesn't work. Once Jack wraps up the case, and they
discover the perp, he's on the first flight back to LA.
Before he leaves, he tells Casey he loves her and the
baby, but he can't give up what he's worked so hard to
achieve. Casey is heartbroken and tells him to just sign the
divorce papers. Does Jack sign the papers? Does Jack want more than a
long distance relationship with his daughter? Can Jack
get over his past which was an abusive father and then a
succession of foster homes? You'll have to read this book
to find out all the complexities of this relationship
between a husband and wife. Personally, I found myself interested in this story
because it took on a whole new twist. That being that
Casey and Jack are still husband and wife and still in
love. It's a thoughtful story that will make you want to
slap Jack in the head and tell him to do the right thing.
Yet, at the same time, I couldn't understand why Casey
couldn't live in LA. These characters are very real and
have many facets to their personalities. I think this is
the perfect read for someone who really wants to delve
into the mind of a man who could turn away a wife he loves
and a daughter he has yet to know. It's a deeper story
than most category romances, but just as enjoyable. It's
just that the tone is different which can be a good thing
for a change.
