REVIEW

"A POWERFUL STORY OF FRIENDSHIP IN THE MIDST OF WAR"

I always await a new Robin Lee Hatcher book with much anticipation and this new book was no exception. Once again, I was quickly drawn into this story and before I knew it, had devoured the entire thing!

This book tells the story of a group of women who all are connected to each other through the tragedy of the second world war and how they come together to form what they call the Victory Club. Lucy Anderson is the lifeline of the group. Her husband 1st Lieutenant Richard is a pilot serving in Europe. She spends her days as a civilian secretary for the Army. It seems since the day after her marriage, which just so happens to be the same day that her husband was called to war, that she has spent her life waiting.

Dottie King has a boyfriend overseas and a secret that she hasn't revealed to even her mother yet. Dottie after all still lives at home with her mother Margo. Her brother Clark is also fighting overseas for Uncle Sam. Their lives are also filled with waiting and prayer as they both pray for the safety of their family member and Dottie as always prays that her sweetheart will come home safely.

Penelope Maxfield is the character in this book I found hard to love however I tried to keep reminding myself that God loves us all -- faults and all. Penelope's husband suffered a back injury and won't be called up to fight for his country and it seems that if anything Penelope is angry. Angry that she is the main breadwinner; angry that her husband won't come home a hero and angry that she got married and became a mother too young.

When this group comes together to spend a Saturday of prayer and fellowship, they have no idea what the future will hold for any of them. You'll love having the chance to delve deeply into each woman's lives and discovering just what God has planned for them.

The Lord is my strength and my song; he has given me victory Songs of joy and victory are sung in the camp of the godly. The strong right arm of the Lord has done glorious things. Psalm 118:14-15
