REVIEW

"A Wonderful new Carpathian tale."

After centuries of sleeping deep in the earth under an ancient cemetery in Paris, legendary twins Gabriel and Lucian are awakened by the movement of the earth during construction and relocation of the cemetery. They were there because during a horrific battle between the two, Gabriel made the decision to entomb them both for all time, to fulfill his promise to Lucian to stop him, should he ever turn to the darkness in his soul and become a vampire, and to protect himself from having to chose between suicide by walking into the light, or turning vampire like his brother did. Now they have been awakened, and Gabriel knows he must find his brother and kill him before Lucian can use his terrible strength and powers to harm the innocent people of the city. Gabriel is gaunt and weak from his long slumber and needs to feed before he fights Lucian, so he disguises himself as an old man and goes in search of the human blood he requires.

Francesca Del Ponce is a natural born healer who can't resist helping someone in need. When she finds a starving old man on the street, she insists on taking him to a shelter for help, but when he is turned away at the shelter she decides to take him home with her and care for him there. She doesn't know that this man is hiding some terrible secrets, but what he doesn?t know is that she has some secrets of her own.

DARK LEGEND is an exciting and worthy addition to Ms. Feehan's Carpathian series. Gabriel could have been arrogant and overbearing, with all his strength and power, but his love for his brother had taught him to care for others, his anguish over the fact that he must hunt his brother down and kill him was heartbreaking. His only salvation was that he had discovered his lifemate in Francesca and that his love for her, and hers for him could help him bear the pain. Francesca and Gabriel try to plan for a future together, along with an abused orphan girl they want to adopt, but always in the backs of their minds is the knowledge that one day soon either Gabriel or Lucian, or both, must die. I was on pins and needles until the end, waiting to see how it would turn out!

Author Interview

Summary

Gabriel wakes deep within the ground, and the first sensation he feels is an overwhelming hunger for blood. But as he hunts the dark streets of Paris for prey, a voice calls to him, soothing, calming, giving him the strength to control his craving. Francesca Del Ponce is a healer, a woman who radiates goodness as powerfully as the sun does light. Though Garbriel knows she will be like hot silk in his arms, though he knows the taste of her will be addictive, he fears for her life and his soul if he takes her. Then with one mind-shattering vow she gives herself-- I offer freely, without reservation, I offer my life for yours as is my right--and with a firestorm of long- forgotten feelings, he glimpses salvation.
