"Lunacy Alaska and its Lunatics"
Nate Burgess was a good cop with the Baltimore PD. When his
partner and best friend is
gunned down and he is seriously wounded, Nate finds it
difficult to care about his life
again, much less his job in Homicide. When he is offered
the job of Chief of Police
for a small town in Alaska, he takes it in the hope of
finding out where he really belongs. Lunacy, Alaska is nothing he has ever experienced before.
Upon arriving he is hit on by
the owner of The Lodge, the town's local
restaurant/watering hole, breaking up bar fights,
and dealing with absurdly cold temperatures and snow so
deep that you need to hold on
to a rope to find out where you are going. Despite his
best efforts, Nate soon realises
that just maybe he'll fit in with the people of Lunacy. Meg Galloway has lived in Lunacy all her life and cannot
imagine living anywhere else.
When she meets the new Chief of Police she is drawn to not
only his sexy looks, but
the sadness she sees lurking in his eyes when he thinks no
one is looking. The relationship between Meg and Nate is tested when a dead
body is discovered
and it is non other then Meg's father a man everyone ran
off
on his family. Now Nate
is looking for a murderer and the person he is looking or
just may be a neighbor
in his new hometown of Lunacy, Alaska. NORTHERN LIGHTS is the latest single title by mega-talented
Nora Roberts and fans
of Ms. Roberts certainly will not be disappointed. You get
to see Alaska through the
eyes of Nate Burgess, from the time he arrives in Lunacy
and when he experiences
his first storm there or when he sees the Northern Lights
and all its glory up close.
You get to meet the Charlene, the owner of the Lodge, who
hits on every new man
who comes to town, and who also happens to have a love/hate
relationship
with her daughter Meg. Then there is Hopp the mayor of
Lunacy, who hired
Nate to begin with and begins to doubt the wiseness of that
decision when
Nate insists on investigating the death of Pete Galloway.
The murder
mystery will keep you guessing and the romance between Meg
and Nate
burns hot enough to melt the snow. Fans of Ms. Roberts will not be disappointed, but if its
been awhile since you
picked up a book by this author, I think NORTHERN LIGHTS is
the perfect
book to get you hooked on Nora Roberts all over again. Barb Hicks

SummaryLunacy was Nate Burke's last chance. As a Baltimore cop,
he'd watched his partner die on the streetand the
guilt still haunts him. With nowhere else to go, he
accepts the job as Chief of Police in this tiny, remote
Alaskan town. Aside from sorting out a run-in between a
couple of motor vehicles and a moose, he finds his first
weeks on the job are relatively quiet. But just as he
wonders whether this has been all a big mistake, an
unexpected kiss on New Year's Eve under the brilliant
Northern Lights of the Alaska sky lifts his spirit and
convinces him to stay just a little longer.
Meg Galloway, born and raised in Lunacy, is used to being
alone. She was a young girl when her father disappeared,
and she has learned to be independent, flying her small
plane, living on the outskirts of town with just her
huskies for company. After her New Year's kiss with the
Chief of Police, she allows herself to give in to
passionwhile remaining determined to keep things as
simple as possible. But there's something about Nate's sad
eyes that gets under her skin and warms her frozen heart.
And now, things in Lunacy are heating up. Years ago, on
one of the majestic mountains shadowing the town, a crime
occurred that is unsolved to this dayand Nate
suspects that a killer still walks the snowy streets. His
investigation will unearth the secrets and suspicions that
lurk beneath the placid surface, as well as bring out the
big-city survival instincts that made him a cop in the
first place. And his discovery will threaten the new
lifeand the new lovethat he has finally found
for himself.
