"A Wonderful Western Romance!"
I don't know where in the world I have been, under
a rock I guess, but I'm so glad that I discovered Jodi
Thomas! Charlie O'Riley sends his only daughter Karina
(Kara) away. He tells her that it's unsafe to stay in
Pittsburgh because they are in danger. He gives her a
packet of papers and tells her not to open the papers
unless something happens to him. Three months later finds Kara in Kansas City
starving. She's finished business school and now needs
desperately to find a job as a bookkeeper. She is sent on
a job interview where she's given the job and fifty dollars
to prepare for her trip to Texas. On her way out she runs into Jonathan Catlin who
tells her all the reasons she should not accept the job.
She has no way of knowing that he's her new boss. She has
no choice but to keep the job, as she needs the money. Thus ensues the greatest adventure in Kara's life.
She's shot at, practically kidnapped, and cursed at, among
other things. On the way somehow or other she and Jonathan
fall in love but will they admit their love for each other? I simply could not put this adventuresome book
down. I know I will be hunting up Jodi Thomas' backlist in
short order. This may have been my first Jodi Thomas but
it certainly will not be my last!
