"A touching story of love and betrayal."
Four years ago, at age 15, Cassie was married, then
abandoned in the same night. After all this time, she wants
her absent husband, Samuel, to sign a deed of separation.
Samuel had left Cassie to give her time to grow up. Now
that he's back and sees his beautiful wife, he wants to
keep her. Samuel suggests a bargain. He'll sign the deed at the end
of the Season if she introduces him to Society. Cassie
agrees, but doesn't trust him to follow through. She starts
investigating Samuel to find something to use against him.
She soon discovers that the more she learns about him, the
more she really doesn't want him to sign the deed. But to
remain with him would mean that he must forgive his
family. After two attempts on his life, embezzlement at his
business and the death of an employee, Samuel knows he has
to get Cassie to safety. But she wants to stay close to
him. When she's kidnapped, Samuel rushes to her rescue. As
soon as they return and the family gathers, Cassie can see
in his eyes that he's forgiven his family. Now they can
start a life of their own together. This book had me staying up late to finish it. This
touching story of love and betrayal will go on the shelf to
be read again.
