Jenna dan Aron lives as a Shielder, and yet an outcast from
her colony due to the visions of the future she's had since
she was a girl. In one of her visions, she sees herself
marrying a Leor warlord. The Leor are a genetically engineered race of near-humans
who have DNA compatible with the Shielder race. In return
for assistance by the Leor in evacuating two Shielder
colonies threatened by the Controllers, Comdar Arion of
Saura demands a Shielder bride. Low birthrate and high
infant mortality are taking their toll on the Leor people,
and the leaders of the Leor have begun taking brides
from other races in the hopes that genetic diversity will
increase their chances of survival. Jenna volunteers to be
that bride, fulfilling her vision and escaping the people
who fear her visions. Jenna and Arion are fascinating characters drawn in the
rich emotional colors Ms. Spangler does so well. SHADOW
FIRES will be added to my keeper shelf, right next to the
other volumes of this wonderful series!
