REVIEW

"Touchdown!"

The Quarterback by Trixie Stilletto is an e-book from AmberQuill Press. It is a short story, and one I enjoyed.

Maggie Moore and Ken Dryden were very close to making a life commitment as college students. However, on the same day each was handed the opportunity to follow their dreams. Unfortunately those paths would lead away from each other instead of towards one another.

Now years later their dreams didn't work out quite as planned. Ken is trying to restart his football career, and Maggie instead of being a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist is now covering sports. They meet up again when she is assigned to cover his comeback story.

The evening of Ken's tryout there is a party to which each is invited. Ken has no choice but to attend as the party is being hosted by the friend with whom he is staying. Maggie hesitates in attending because she doesn't want to see Ken again. She however decides that she wants to be with her friends, and attends the party.

A search for her belongings after the party leave Maggie and Ken alone in the guest apartment that Ken is staying in. Both realize that their past is not quite yet finished and the rest I will leave to you to read about. The morning after finds Ken and Maggie hashing out their past, and heading towards a future together.

Most of the short stories that I have read have done little in establishing characters past or satisfying my interest in their futures. Ms. Stilletto has done both. I look forward to reading her other short stories.
