REVIEW

"Poignant historical fantasy, full of hopes and dreams"

Someone shot Madeline Carlton's father. She doesn't have time to find out who or why, she needs to find a healer fast. Riding takes forever with her Welsh guide, but finally he leaves her to go on alone. She must find this wizened old healer and return with him to her father as fast as possible. Madeline gets lost in Wolfglyn forest, she meets the most angelic, but irracible man and his wolf. He won't help her find the healer or point her in the right direction, but takes her back to the river which is the start of the forest.

Dance D'epanier is Lord of Wolfglyn and he was healer to his people. His powers of healing are gone, and he has devoted himself to a life of celibacy. He knows that the next woman he brings to the castle his nemesis will destroy, and in killing her he will die too. Dance thinks that all he needs is his wolves, his horse Lucifer, and the one old man, to survive. He may survive, but will he really live?

LORD OF MISTS is a poignant story, full of hopes and dreams. It has love, and death, and a madman to thwart. There were some things with Madeline's character that were maddening; all I wanted to do was hit her on the head with a 2x4. Here is a girl in the early part of the 19th century Wales, who shouldn't be out on her own. First she goes to find this healer without any of her brothers as escort. Later she figures out that maybe she shouldn't have gone alone. When Dance tries to keep her safe, she wants to run right out into danger again, and damn the consequences.

I did like Ms Lindsey's use of the wolves Sheva, her father Druidh. If you are looking for a story with more sex than substance this is not the one for you. You can't help but feel for the wounded hero. After reading LORD OF MISTS, I hope to see Madeline's brothers get stories of their own. Women to bring these chauvinistic men to their knees. While some words were missing and the editing and sentences structures could have been better, the story is a quick read.

Summary

When Madeline Carlton sets out to save her father's life— all she must do is bring back the mysterious healer of Radnor Forest. What she runs in to, is a creature of confounding beauty who makes it brutally clear he wants nothing to do with her.

Tormented by what love destroyed once, Dance D'epanier doesn't care why Madeline is trespassing—he wants her gone. Living in solitude with his pet wolves, he struggles with bitter memories when he lost not only his healing gift, but all he held dear in this world. Those memories help him resist the lure of desire, for to risk touching his beautiful nemesis would be unforgivable—if he weakens, she will be put to death by the madman who haunts his life.
