"A well-written novel of the 1930s."
After having her savings stolen, Margie Kinnard is again
trying to live her dream of going to California to become a
movie star. This time, her father's driving as they travel
Route 66. To Margie's surprise and relief, they start a
caravan with three families - the Putnams, the Lukers and
the Holts. All agree that with so people on the road trying
to find work or easy money, this is the safest way to
travel. Soon the group runs into trouble. The men deal with
the would-be robbers and continue on their way.
Unfortunately, one of the potential thieves, Homer, teams
up with Sugar Luker to follow the caravan for riches and
revenge. In the midst of danger, hardship and death, three couples
fall in love. Brady Holt and Margie love each other despite
times of dislike and mistrust. Sugar loves Homer and the
excitement he brings. And Mona Luker and Rusty Putnam learn
to love each other. Ms. Garlock has created a well-written novel of the 1930s.
Events follow one upon the other in a natural way to carry
the story and let the reader become better acquainted with
the characters as the story progresses.
