"Intense, well-written and thought-provoking."
After 18 years of being away, Joy Hudson returns to
Wharton, Kentucky. Buying the house of her long-deceased
best friend, Jenny, Joy is finally ready to start her
mobile veterinary practice and care for her elderly
parents. Everything will be fine as long as she doesn't run
into Jeff Bradford, the person responsible for Jenny's
death. When Joy accidentally hits a dog, she discovers it
belongs to none other than the very handsome and grown-up
Dr. Jeff Bradford. It doesn't take long for Joy to realize she's wrong about
Jeff. But something has caused her to block out Jenny's
funeral. Jeff agrees to help her remember, but he won't
come out and tell her what really happened. Joy gets some
help from Jenny's spirit and begins to put the pieces of
the puzzle together. She soon discovers the whole truth -
that she fell in love with her best friend's boy friend.
Jeff refuses to give up on Joy because he's fallen in love
with her, and he's been waiting his whole life for the
chance to be with her. Finally, Joy faces the truth that
she loves Jeff, and with a big push from Jenny's spirit,
she jumps at the chance of a future with him. This story, told in first-person, is very well written,
though it tends to get intense. It made me think of my
belief in life-after-death.
