"Poignant romance dealing with real life issues"
Gina Tennison backs her 'peanut' of a car out of a parking
space and somehow manages to dent a gleaming Rolls Royce.
The owner, Carson Page, is just as elegant, sophisticated
and solid as the car itself. Gina finds herself liking the
enigmatic and masculine man quite a bit, until she finds
out about his attitude and relationship with his deaf son,
Joey. Deaf herself, since she was a child, Gina has learnt
to deal with her inability and fully understands how Joey
feels. She realizes Carson doesn't know how to deal with
Joey and the man she once thought was charming and
wonderful, suddenly seems cold, aloof and uncaring. Unable
to control her fiery temperament, she reproaches him for
his treatment of Joey. Gina soon finds herself working for
Carson, helping him get closer to understanding Joey.
However, helping father and son find a way to communicate
also leads to the risk of losing her heart and yearning for
things she knows she can't have. Carson Page once had a perfect life, a wife he loved and a
beautiful son he was very proud of. Then his world fell
apart when his son became deaf and his wife, unable to
handle the "imperfection" of their son, deserted them for
the bright lights of fame as an actress. Carson lives in a
cold world, growing further and further apart from a son he
doesn't know how to communicate with. Father and son, both
trapped in their own worlds of misery need help
desperately. So when Gina intervenes like an avenging
angel on behalf of Joey, both males latch on to her
eagerly, refusing to let go. Carson finds Gina becoming
more and more indispensable with each passing day and Joey
beings to think of her as his anchor too. Yet, once more
chaos reigns when Joey's mother decides to come back and
claim her husband and child. Lucy Gordon's latest release, FOR THE SAKE OF HIS CHILD is
a poignant romance that deals with real life issues. Ms.
Gordon has handled the subject of deafness so well and
shown with great clarity what life can be life for someone
who lives without the privilege of noise in their life. Gina is a character to be admired. She deals with her
deafness in everyday life so naturally and doesn't for one
moment feel sorry for herself or feel less of a woman. I
really enjoyed meeting her. Gina's understanding and
instant rapport with Joey was also well portrayed and the
way she constantly clashed with Carson was wonderful! She
had me rooting for her from the get go. Carson is a
wonderful father, despite his inability to communicate.
His heart is in the right place and it is clear throughout
the story that he really loves his child. He just feels
lost as far as communicating with him goes and doesn't
understand how to approach the little boy. Carson and Gina
make a wonderful couple and with Joey, a charming family.
Joey himself was a delight. His impishness and genius
shine through as the story moves along and you can't help
but love the boy. Ms. Gordon has presented her fans with a story that is
strongly plotted and fast-paced with thoroughly enjoyable
characters. Don't miss out on FOR THE SAKE OF HIS CHILD!
