REVIEW

"There are still knights in shinning armor."

The first time Daniel "Lock" Lochlan sees Lauren Van Schuyler, he is saving her from scaffolding collapsing on her. As they lie there waiting for rescue, Lock tries to keep Lauren calm. Between the cold and the shock they tell each other things that they normally wouldn't say. Lock requests that after they are rescued Lauren not try to find him, and so doesn't tell her his full name.

Lauren will be forever grateful to the man who saved her while she was just five weeks pregnant. She has thought constantly about the time six months ago spent with Lock. The six hours that changed her whole life. Lauren, now seven months pregnant, and with no husband, has to decide alone how best to raise her child.

After telling her fiancé Ben that she was not going to marry him he leaves the United States. It wasn't her he wanted but what she could bring him, namely money. Ben left the United States when his company went under, and instead of helping pay the stockholders back he took up residency in Switzerland with whatever money he could get his hands on. There is someone out there who wants the money Ben has absconded with, and they think Lauren was in on the fraud.

Lauren's father wants Lochlan's security company, and namely Lock, to protect his daughter. Both Lauren and Lock's father were army buddies, and though they never kept in touch Lock feels he owes her father a debt. So Lock will put up with all of Lauren's complaints to repay this debt. It doesn't help that all of his protective instincts go on full alert.

Maybe Lock, a widower of twin two-year-old boys, can teach Lauren what she needs to know about raising children that can't be found between the pages of a book. The best thing you can give a child if love. And Lauren can show that it's all right to care for someone no matter what has happened in past relationships.

PREGNANT AND PROTECTED is a sweet story of caring, stubbornness and with two two-year-olds humor. Even though you know the outcome of the story you still enjoy the ride. I can't imagine having three children in diapers at the same time, or all the antics that Lauren and Lock are in for. This would be a story worth coming back to.
