The No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency

REVIEW

"The second chapter of a charming mystery series set in Botswana"

Mma Precious Ramotswe is the owner of the first (and only) female detective agency in Botswana. Despite her recent engagement to Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni, a mechanic, she focuses her attention on her clients and her workload. A grieving mother seeks out Mma Ramotswe for answers to her son's disappearance ten years ago.

Will Mma Ramotswe uncover the secrets of the son's disappearance? Is foul play involved or was it just a tragic happening? And what secret is Mr. Matekoni hiding from her? Will his little secret cause a rift between them?

There seem to be some truths that are universal. The older generations will lament the attitudes and morals of the younger generation. These opinions of Mma Ramotswe and Mr. Matekoni could be from any part of the world. But the rich African culture shines throughout the story. Unlike Americans, the people of Botswana take a leisurely attitude towards life. No one rushes here.

Readers who enjoy mysteries set in other cultures will enjoy TEARS OF THE GIRAFFE. Mr. Smith has written an unusual cozy mystery to warm the heart. Despite being a detective novel, this is a true cozy with the requisite gentility.
