REVIEW

"Wonderful small town contemporary romance"

Out of work Formula One race-car superstar Rick "Lucky" Hawkins drives through Texas to visit his father Clint and his dad's new wife Pam. He misses the turn-off because the sultry voice of the late night DJ, Red Jarrett hooks his thoughts. He realizes his mistake and complete the ride.

Though he planned to stay aloof from his stepfamily, Rick finds he is unable to keep any distance as Pam and her kin welcome him with open arms with one hesitant exception. He especially finds his stepmother's cousin Audra Jarrett of the sultry voice fame quite intelligent and he wants her. However, Audra is a victim of tragedy and though she is attracted to Rick, she fears commitment as something happens to those she cherishes. So how is she to deal with loving Rick, who drives high-speed cars for a living? She concludes she can't because if he crashed she could not recover. Rick will need more than love, perhaps a lot of luck, to persuade Audra that being together only for the moment but with the potential of forever is worth the risk.

Though the Jarrett brood seems overwhelming at times, readers obtain a wonderful small town contemporary romance starring two fine protagonists. Rick and Audra make the tale hum especially with her reluctance to risk her heart on someone whose work is so dangerous. As usual Rebecca Winters provides a deep poignant tale with characters readers will appreciate and like.
