REVIEW

"The next installment of the popular Aphrodite series!"

Julie Kenner's Aphrodite books are just a delight to read. It is absolutely impossible for me to read these slowly. They are much too enjoyable and I end up reading them in one sitting.

In APHRODITE'S SECRET Lane Kent's story is told. Lane had a hot and heavy affair with Jason years ago and when she told him she was pregnant, he did a vanishing act. She's never gotten over him but her delightful son Davy more than makes up for it.

Now eight years later Jason is back. There are secrets he kept from Lane, one of which was that he is one of the Protectors and that means Davy is a 'halfling'. Another secret is the fact of who Jason's father is and where Jason's been for the past seven years.

All Jason wants is to figure out how to get his family back. He knows he's missed out on Davy's formative years but it looks to him that Lane has done an excellent job of raising Davy to this point. Now on the eve of Davy's seventh birthday, Jason really needs to have a long talk with Lane especially before Davy comes into his full powers.

Lane thinks she got over Jason a long time ago when he skipped out on her and their unborn child but Lane has another think coming! She is a long way from being over Jason but she fights that attraction tooth and nail! When Davy is kidnapped, Jason is the only one Lane can turn to and trust. She knows that Jason will save their son or die trying.

I thoroughly enjoyed this fabulous installment in the Aphrodite's series. As a bonus, we also get to revisit Zoë, Taylor, Deena, Hoop and Elmer, the ferret from the previous books. What more can you ask for? I was in Protector heaven! Now I'm eagerly looking forward to what Julie Kenner has in mind for Mordi!

Author Interview

Summary

Jason Murphy could talk to creatures of the sea. He could also change into a dolphin, and had a ton of other superpowers like all Protectors; but none of them really helped his situation. The love of his life didn't trust him anymore - thought his devotion was...fishy. Sure, she had her reasons: when she'd needed him most, he'd been focusing on his super-career. But that was all over. He vowed to win her back.

It wasn't going to be easy. His outcast father was still plotting world domination, and Jason was still pledged to protect mortals everywhere. His other Protector friends didn't trust him, feared his commitment to justice. And though Lane still loved him - he could see it in her eyes - how to win her hand in marriage seemed the best-kept secret ever. Heck, pretty soon Jason would swear that beating up the bad guys was easy; it was this relationship stuff that took a true superman!
