REVIEW

"Intense, Supsense and Understanding"

Bethany St. Croix has always longed for a child to call her own and believes that she will never be a mother. After a miscarriage in her past and unsuccessful attempts during her marriage to conceive, her dreams never came true and ultimately destroyed her already doomed marriage. But now Bethany's ex-husband Lance has been murdered, Bethany is the prime suspect and her dream of being a mother becomes shattered even more. She doesn't have all the answers for what happened the night Lance was murdered and she realizes she has no where or anyone to turn to for help, except the man that has haunted her dreams for years, Dylan St. Croix. Dylan is a P.I. and he and Lance were cousins. Dylan is also the man that Bethany loved years before and the man that she just spent a passionate night with weeks ago. Nine years ago Dylan and Bethany loved each other passionately and wanted to spend their lives together. But when Bethany found out she was pregnant and told Dylan he was shocked and ran off. Bethany, needing Dylan with her, followed him and after tragic circumstances, Bethany miscarried their baby. The guilt and despair that they both felt came between them and they drew apart, Dylan left town and they never saw or spoke to each other again until three years later when Bethany married Lance and Dylan lost her forever.

Dylan is determined to help Bethany clear her name in the murder investigation and stops at nothing to be there for her. But Bethany isn't too eager for Dylan's help. Especially after they learn that as a result of their night together, she is again carrying Dylan's child. Bethany is ecstatic and scared all at the same time. She is a prime suspect in a murder, scared that she won't be able to protect her unborn child and has mixed feelings having Dylan in her life once again. Bethany has always loved Dylan but too much time has passed with guilt and broken dreams for them to be together again. But while the murder is still hanging over them, Bethany and Dylan hide out from reporters and everyone else but can they hide their true feelings from each other day after day? Dylan investigates the murder, determined to clear the only woman he has ever loved and to protect their unborn child. Can Bethany and Dylan get past old hurts and overcome the guilt that has consumed them both for years?

Jenna Mills masterfully writes an amazing story of betrayal, suspense, intrigue and of hopes and dreams. The longing that Bethany feels to have a child to hold in her arms is passionately written and the reader feels her pain and anguish. The fire that still burns hotter than ever between Bethany and Dylan is intense, splendid and scorches the pages. Dylan's devotion to Bethany is wonderful and endearing, even despite his years of pain believing Bethany chose Lance over him. This story is a very emotional one about two lost souls who can only heal each other. But the road to healing is never easy and the saying that time heals all wounds isn't necessarily the case with these two characters, they both have to start fresh with one another but their passion and desire is still there and undeniable. Ms. Mills introduces two strong characters that are emotionally scarred that I found I wanted to protect from harm and hoping that they would have a happily ever after. I found the relationship between Bethany and Dylan was the focus of this book, but it didn't take away from the mystery of who killed Lance St. Croix, I was hooked from the very beginning. Ms. Mills is a superb author who adds fantastic twists and turns to her books that keep her readers guessing, this book is no exception.
