REVIEW

"Full of humor, wit and delightful characters!"

1836 Scotland

After seven long years, Anne Kerr comes face to face once more with the man who seduced her at the tender at of seventeen. Summoned by Queen Victoria for a private meeting, she finds herself with no choice but to acknowledge the rogue's presence. Patrick Sutherland, cousin to Anne's now-deceased husband, sports the reputation of a rake, but he has never forgotten the sweet, innocent girl who was the only person who ever sincerely cared for him or cried over him.

Patrick's Uncle Edgar died under mysterious circumstances, a year previously, while attending a hunting party at Anne's country home. Upon the Queen's request, Anne and Patrick are to travel there and either find the murderer or squelch the sordid rumors. To protect Anne's reputation, Patrick's Auntie Nellwyn is appointed the Queen's Counselor and chaperone on this trip, although she is really the matchmaker who has devised this escapade to bring Anne and Patrick together. Patrick is to act as Anne's butler, a situation which delights Anne, as it gives her the opportunity to taunt and trouble the rake endlessly!

Jillian Hunter has penned a wonderful Victorian novel. INDISCRETION is full of humor and wit, and delightful main characters. Readers who sit down with this novel can depend on being thoroughly entertained with a charming story.

Ms Hunter has a talent for creating rich, lively, and endearing characters who steal the reader's heart from the beginning. Patrick makes a hilarious butler who, instead of infuriating or upsetting guests as Anne thinks he's bound to, has every female eating out of his hand and thinking of outrageous excuses to lure him into her employ. The cast of secondary characters is outstanding, especially Auntie Nellwyn, who compliments the story and adds to the humor.

The dialogue was exceptionally funny and carried the story along beautifully. I especially enjoyed all the scenes involving Auntie Nellwyn. Jillian Hunter presents her readers with a good plot and certainly follows through with a captivating and highly amusing tale.

INDISCRETION is a charming and entertaining romance that is sure to leave a distinct impression, and I heartily recommend it to lovers of Victorian historical romances.

Summary

The scandal of Anne Kerr's foolish, stormy affair with a Scottish nobleman's son was averted when her parents quickly married her off to the scoundrel's cousin, a respectable English baron. A widow now, Anne has never forgotten Patrick Sutherland, who had seduced and abandoned—and indeed, disgraced—her, no matter how she tries to lose her feelings in her furious horse rides across the heath. But even a woman of Anne's spirit can't ignore a royal summons that reunites her with Patrick under dire and mysterious circumstances.

The suspicious death of a relative calls for a clandestine investigation inside a Highland hunting fortress. Anne and Patrick find themselves commanded by Queen Victoria to lay rumors of murder to rest. Anne sees nothing but trouble and temptation in the Queen's order to work with the rogue who shamed her.

To Patrick, however, the chance to serve as Anne's bodyguard is a dream come true. But even the best dream can take a wicked twist...and when he learns he is not to pose as her ladyship's protector, but as her butler, the proud Highlander must helplessly submit as Anne exacts the delicious revenge he deserves for breaking her heart.
