"Entertaining story"
Wales 1380 Lady Sheena of Ogof is on the run because she believes she
killed her husband. Her father, Lord Jestin, sends his
head solider, Sir Manning, to bring her back. To avoid
being captured, Sheena stows away on a ship, but once the
ship is at sea, she is caught and brought before the
Captain. Although she is immediately attracted to the
Captain, she recognizes him to be the boy she helped years
ago escape from danger, and he paid back her kindness by
betraying her. Captain Keegan is not pleased to find a stowaway on his
ship, the DARK SAPPHIRE. A ship full of rough sea-going
men is no place for a woman, especially one as beautiful as
Sheena. She reminds him of the time his father died and he
escaped death narrowly, but in the process lost his memory
of the incident. Extremely attracted to the beauty, it is
only a matter of time before the two fall in love. However, due to a misunderstanding, Sheena believes Keegan
has betrayed her once again and she flees his ship.
Unfortunately, Sir Manning takes some of the ship's crew
hostage and Sheena is captured. Upon her return to her
father's castle, the truth slowly begins to unravel about
Sheena's crime and the real conspiracy within Ogof. DARK SAPPHIRE, the third book in the Dark Jewel trilogy, is
a well-penned tale by Lisa Jackson. Boasting a beautiful
and strong heroine and a roguish but charming hero, this
medieval romance certainly makes for an entertaining read.
Although I found nothing unique or outstanding about the
story, Ms Jackson's talent for writing fast-paced,
intriguing romance is once more evident within the pages of
DARK SAPPHIRE. Sheena is a courageous and bold heroine and certainly
displayed a lot of spunk, but I felt in some cases her
defiance of Keegan, especially when he's only trying to
protect her against his ornery shipmates, was a bit
overdone. Keegan's character is very well defined and a
reader can't help becoming enamored of him. Overall, the
secondary characters were very entertaining, especially
Fawn, Sheena's stepmother, who's evilness shone like a
diamond from the start. Despite the fact that I personally didn't find DARK
SAPPHIRE as intriguing or as exciting as many of her
previous books, I feel Ms Jackson has given her fans
another captivating tale and I would recommend this book to
all medieval romance lovers.
