REVIEW

"A delightful New Year's erotica story"

Who hasn't dreamed of what it would be like to step into another life for a while, to get away from what is known and try something totally out of the ordinary?

Jane Smith had always been a nobody in her hometown. She was shy, plain, and unremarkable. When she receives an invitation to her high school reunion, she starts to wonder what it would be like to shock everyone she had known, surprising them with whom she had become, bestselling novelist Janette Hayden. As Jane sits in her hotel room on New Year's Eve, she decides it is time for a change.

With her resolutions in tow, she sets off to become a new person. What she hadn't counted on was Tanner Elliot, an old friend from her high school days... the boy who had made her heart flutter. The first look --- after several years --- showed her he was no longer a boy, but an incredible man who makes her long for something she's never known. When he makes a proposition that leaves her breathless, she knows she's about to experience one of the most memorable... and erotic... evenings of her life.

This story is slightly reminiscent of a "chick lit" story in that it is about an average woman finding herself and making changes to improve her life. But there the similarity ends. No chick lit this reviewer has read was ever quite so spicy. Ms. Wilde is quite skilled at drawing out the sexual tension, taut as a bowstring just waiting to be released.

Tanner and Jane mesh well, their friendship leading them to the path they are now on. Though only a short story, the reader feels the relationship between the two as more then just an affair. Also one will discover, along with Jane, that what she thinks she wants, and what she needs, are not necessarily the same thing, and can be found in the unlikeliest of places.

Summary

Despite her phenomenal success, and the drastic change in her appearance, when ever novelist Janette Hayden looked in the mirror, the person starring back at her was still plain Jane Smith. Inside, she was still the excruciatingly shy, overweight, non-person from the wrong side of the tracks she'd been in high school. An invitation to her high school reunion offered her the opportunity to face her painful school years and to banish plain Jane forever. Vowing this would be the last New Years Eve she would spend alone, with her solitary glass of champagne, Jane Smith wrote out her New Years Resolutions:

I. Make over plain Jane
(a) Attend reunion
(b) Seduce Ryan Shipman, high school heart throb
(c) Lose virginity
II. Get a real life.

She never expected the class bad boy would be at the reunion, nor that he would make a proposition she couldn't refuse.
