"Beautifully penned story will touch your heart..."
At the age of seventeen, Libby Bateson finds her life torn
apart. Her mother and brother are killed in a car wreck
and Libby is raped by the boy she has been seeing. When
she finds herself pregnant, her father, still grieving over
the devastating loss, kicks her off their farm. Libby
makes a new but very difficult life for herself and the
baby in Toronto. Today, eight years later, Libby still struggles to provide
a decent living for her daughter, Nicole. Even working two
jobs is not helping her make ends meet. Nicole is not
doing so well in the rough neighborhood where they live
either. Finally Libby decides it's time to go back to
Chatsworth, Saskatchewan and earn her dilploma, even if her
father will not acknowledge her presence. Once there, Libby puts the house to rights and tries to get
on with life. She also meets up again with her neighbor,
Gibson Browning, and his young daughter, Allie. Now a
widower, Gibson was once her brother's best friend. At
first their daughters, who are around the same age, get
along famously and this compliments the budding
relationship between Gibson and Libby quite well. However,
soon differences and animosity between Allie and Nicole
threaten to drive Libby and Gibson apart. Libby also lives
with the fear that her shameful past will somehow become
known and when she realizes the man who compromised her
still lives nearby, it only increases her anxiety. CJ Carmichael's A Daughter's Place is a beautifully
penned story that will certainly touch your heart. Real
characters, heart-wrenching emotions and some sweet
romance, all combine to make A Daughter's Place a
book you will "want" to read. Ms. Carmichael displays
excellent talent for transporting readers deep into the
heart of the story and painting small town life so
accurately, you almost believe you life there yourself.
The emotions of the characters are rich and very well
portrayed. Overall a very entertaining story to curl up with when
you're in the mood for real and admirable characters.
