"Can the nature boy open up a new world for the shy woman"
The only thing that Caleb Greenleaf wants is some peace and
quiet. As the last bachelor left from the ad in
Metropolitan magazine, poor Caleb has been doing nothing
but beating the women off with a stick. Not that having
sexy women throw themselves at him is a bad thing, but
Caleb knows the only thing that they are interested in is
his money. Being a self-made millionaire means little to
him, but the women seem to think that makes him the perfect
husband. All Caleb wants is a woman who will love him for
himself and the land that he loves. Too bad that the one
woman he has always had a crush on doesn't notice. Meggie Scofield has been home for several months, licking
her wounds from her divorce. Being around her friends and
family has helped her heal, but it is time for her to stop
hiding and get back to her life in Seattle. Before she
goes though, her friends talk her into going to the town's
masquerade. This is just one more chance for her to have a
good time before returning to work at the hospital. The only thing Caleb notices is Klondike Kate. He doesn't
know who she could be, but that is one woman he wants to
get to know. Meggie can't help but stare at Don Juan. He
is just the man she needs to make her feel like a woman.
Sparks fly when the two meet. Both want to be anonymous,
neither gives their real identities, but when Klondike Kate
whispers her phone number in Don Juan's ear, the game is
up. He knows who she is and man he likes who she is
pretending to be. Caleb decides to keep up the charade while he is in Seattle
as a guest speaker for the hospital but what he really
wants is to spend time with Meggie as himself. Can she
learn to love who he is, or is she only looking for someone
who can give her thrills and chills? What will happen when
Meggie finds out that Caleb knows who she is? Can she
leave her life in the big city and become the last
wilderness wife? WOW! Lori sure knows how to wrap up a series. It was
wonderful how she made every bachelor somewhat different,
but all looking for the same thing, a wife to love the land
that they love so much. With every bachelor I fell a
little in love with Alaska myself. The night goes by fast
when you can't put down a book. Lori Wilde knows how to
write those types of books. I look forward to reading more
of her work. By Bea Sigman
