"A Feisty Heroine and a Determined Suitor"
Gwennor Southford's father has died leaving both Gwennor
and her brother, Parry, at the mercy of their cousin
Nigel. Nigel is determined to marry her off to his old
friend who is over twice Gwennor's age and confine Parry to
the attics. Parry is eighteen years old and had been
kicked in the head by a horse. leaving him with memory loss
and unable to function as a normal eighteen year old.
Gwennor is determined to protect her gentle brother at all
costs. Parry has a way with animals and is quite content
taking care of horses, wild creatures and strays. Gwen
decides to take Parry and go to a relative's home in
Harrogate and hopefully find a husband willing to accept
her as well as Parry. She goes to the gypsy encampment
and requests that she and her brother travel with them so
that her cousin cannot trace their journey. The request is
granted but only if she works on the way. They train her
in the art of fortune telling and cards. As they travel the countryside, the farmers and other young
bucks come out to get their fortunes told, watch the
beautiful gypsy women dance and get their fortunes told.
Gilen de Mowbry goes with his brother to see the gypsies
and is captivated by the veiled beauty dealing cards. He
attempts to get acquainted and when he grabs her and kisses
her, she responds to his advances. He leaves as the
gypsies close their camp and when he tries to locate them
the next day, they have gone on their way. Jeffrey, Gilen's friend, meets Gwennor and thinks himself
in love. Knowing his friend's penchant for falling in love
with every woman he meets, Gilen decides to see the girl to
make sure she is acceptable. The electricity sizzles
between the two and why does she look so familiar.... Julia Justiss does her usual good writing in MY LADY'S
HONOR. It is hard to believe that a regency woman would
travel with the gypsies but it makes a good story line and
an interesting book. There is a lot of romantic tension
between the hero and heroine as they fight their
attraction. I loved the chapter where Gwennor uses the
whip on Gilen -- he liked it as well! The heroine is a
feisty young woman who has much honor as she protects her
younger brother and the handsome hero is determined to have
her for his own. Ms Justiss is well able to keep the
momentum going with good pacing and excellent dialog. MY
LADY'S HONOR is another winner for this talented author.
