REVIEW

"A Father's Nightmare, a Riveting Suspense"

It is every parent's worst nightmare to have a missing child. Liam Armstrong's 17 year old daughter, Emily disappears mysteriously while he is on a business trip. Despite an altercation with the police at age 19, when Emily's mother vanished and he was accused of her murder, Liam turns to the police for help. They send detective Jessica Clark, whose late father, the ex-chief of police, had held a grudge against Liam because he believed Liam to be guilty of murder.

Jessica has worked her way up to detective through hard work, and she resents that Liam thinks she was deliberately sent to antagonize him. Jessica knows what it is to grow up with a strong domineering father, and she thinks that Emily may have run away. But Liam knows his daughter was abducted. He recognizes clues that Emily has left behind for him, knowing that her father will rescue her. Liam is determined to find Emily at any cost, and Jessica has to try to anticipate his next move, as well as try to find his daughter.

When Night Falls is a fast-paced, suspenseful read. Both Liam and Jessica are strong characters, willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done. From the very first the sparks fly between father and detective. Jessica may be the only person to get through the wall that Liam has put up around his emotions. Their strength of character makes for delightful banter, although the arguments and sexual tension sometimes overshadow the search for Emily. Ms. Mills does an excellent job of creating Emily's character through the clues she leaves behind, her possessions, and Liam's view of her. This SIM is an enjoyable, suspenseful book, one that will go on many a reader's "keeper" shelf.
