"A wounded hero and a spunky P.I."
When Private Investigator Allie St. James agrees to help
young Robert Larson by checking up on his dad, Jake, and the
man Robert thinks might be trying to hurt Jake, what choice
does she have but to follow the hunky but wounded man to the
White Sands Resort where he is involved in business dealings
with the owner. Allie coincidentally is investigating this
same man for non-payment of child support. Talk about
killing two birds with one stone! Of course, her trailing
Jake there and then blackmailing him into sharing a room
with her by claiming to be his wife is strictly business and
has nothing to do with the fact that she finds him very
attractive. Not wanting to cause a stir and raise questions, ex-military
intelligence officer Jake Larson plays along with the
beautiful but kooky P. I. when she claims to be his wife. He
is at the resort undercover anyway, so why not add a wife to
his cover? He and the Feds have been trying to nail the
resort's owner for various crimes for quite a while now, and
they are finally ready to take him down. Besides, even
though he has never gotten over the heartbreak of the death
of his wife in the car accident that left him permanently
injured, he is attracted to this woman in a way he has never
felt before and he is reluctant to send her packing. Not realizing they are after the same man, Allie and Jake
conduct their separate investigations, all the while growing
to care for each other more. Meanwhile, danger is closing in
on them. WEDDING IN WHITE SANDS is apparently Catherine Mann's first
published book, and it is a great beginning for her writing
career! The story is well told, it's characters are well
written, their actions and emotions understandable and
sympathetic. The plot does not overpower and instead is used
as a vehicle to further advance the relationship. The book
held my interest throughout and I didn't want to put it
down. This may very well become the first in a list of
popular and hard to find keepers written by Ms. Mann!
