REVIEW

"A wonderful second book in the Outlaw Hartes series!"

This is the second book in the series Outlaw Hartes and is the story of Jesse James Harte. Jesse had been a bad boy until he turned his life around and become a law enforcement officer. He still feels as if he's living down his bad boy image.

He's attracted to the new schoolteacher, Sarah McKenzie but she's too sweet and good for him to even think he has a chance with her. What he doesn't know is that Sarah is running away from having been brutally attacked and left for dead at the school she taught at in Chicago. When she comes to him with accusations that ten-year-old Corey Sylvester may be being abused by his step-father Seth, Jesse can't believe it. He's known Seth, and Corey's mother Ginny, for years. Ginny had been in an abusive marriage before she met and married Seth.

When Sarah starts experiencing strange things such as a man in her back yard and vandalism, she doesn't know what to think and Jesse decides it's up to him to protect her. What happens is that they become more attracted to each other but are they ready for a serious relationship?

I was so engrossed in this book that I read half of it in very little time. Then in between my motherly chores, I finally finished the rest. I thoroughly enjoyed it and have one warning, be sure to have plenty of time set aside for this book because once you pick it up, you will not put it down. It was practically a one sitting read for me!

Summary

Jesse James Harte isn't ready to settle down. If he were, he could have his pick of the women in Star Valley. Not only is he the very eligible police chief of Salt Creek, but he also has the irresistible allure of being the town bad boy in his not-so-distant youth. If he were looking for a wife, he would pick somebody who knew how to have a good time, certainly not a quiet, shy mouse of a schoolteacher like Sarah McKenzie. So why can't he stop thinking about her soft beauty and the shadows in her luminous green eyes? He knows she has secrets and his lawman's curiosity won't let him rest until he finds out what they are.

Sarah has come to Star Valley hoping the peace of rural Wyoming will help her escape the nightmares that haunt her after she was beaten severely and raped by a student at her previous job teaching at an inner-city school in Chicago. Jesse Harte, the uncle of one of her favorite students at her new school, terrifies her. He's so big, so completely male, but she swallows her fear when she begins to suspect one of her students is being abused. She turns to Jesse to investigate and in the process discovers a kind, caring man inside all those rough edges.

He begins to help her heal, but can he protect her when a new nightmare looms?
