REVIEW

"The third installment starting with THE CHALLENGE"

The Endekian and the Rystani have been enemies it seems forever. Rystani pilot Xander unfortunately needs Endekian Doctor Alara Callandar for a very important mission. It seems everyone in the galaxy have contracted some sort of Terran virus that no one can find a cure for. Xander needs Alara to use her psi-talent to identify the DNA needed to cure the virus before it wipes out the entire galaxy.

Unfortunately he has to make a deal with the devil, namely Drik the leader of the Endekians. Drik tells Xander he can take Dr. Callandar but only if he leaves Kirek behind. Kirek is very valuable to the Rystani people but he convinces Xander that he knows this is what he is supposed to do.

What Xander doesn't know is that Endekian women need to have sex in order for their cells to regenerate but if they have sex with the same man for too many times, their cells adapt to that man which could be a bad thing. Still when he meets Alara the attraction flares and sparks fly. If Alara goes into Boktai the only thing she can do is have sex and immediately. When this happens she loses her psi ability. This makes for very interesting reading as the story progresses.

Every book I think Susan Kearney can't write a better or more intriguing story and every book she proves me wrong. This whole series thus far (The Challenge, The Dare and now The Ultimatum) has immediately gone right to my keeper shelf upon finishing them. I eagerly look forward to each and every one. I just wish I could read them more slowly so I could savor them but to me this is just plain impossible. Susan, keep them coming!

Summary

Dr. Alara Calladar needs a man...
....but she sure as krek doesn't want one.

If Alara doesn't make love soon, her cells will fail to regenerate and she'll die. Unfortunately, her only option is an enemy—Rystani starpilot Xander, her abductor...and a member of the race who has been battling hers since the beginning of time.

Insufferable smug, Xander issues an ultimatum: He'll make love to Alara only if she will use her psi-talent of identifying DNA to help him find the cure for the deadly Terran virus spreading across the galaxy.

Alara is trapped. She gives Xander what he wants—and gets what she needs. But Alara holds a pair of secrets: the more they make love, until the only person she can make love with is him—and the more time they spend together, the more Alara likes Xander.

When it seems that all the forces in the universe have aligned against them, can Alara trust Xander with her life...and her heart?
