Although my high school essays usually wound up hanging on the classroom bulletin boards, I never, ever, thought of becoming a professional writer. By the time I grew up, got married and had kids, I'd accumulated a cardboard box of writings I called, "A Slice of Life." Pages of family stories, poems, and essays filled that box. The idea of becoming a pro still didn't occur to me. I was having fun with my writing, and what could be better than that? One day I entered a national short story contest. There were almost 2,000 entries, and my little story, "Mom and the Man with the Gray Glinting Eyes," came in 9th. This outcome lit a tiny spark inside me. Why not try to write something bigger? Maybe a novel. I had no doubt about the type of novel. Romance was definitely my calling.

Why romance? I chose romance because I relish a happy ending, the hope for the future. I chose romance because I get to ride the roller coaster with the hero and heroine as they fall in love--despite themselves--and discover what's truly important in life. I chose romance because it is so life affirming and because I like people, and romance fiction, more than any other genre, is about people. Or maybe I chose romance because my own life is filled with heroes and heroines. I know first hand that some love stories are as real as you and I.

When Harlequin Superromance accepted my debut novel in 2001, my feet didn't touch the ground for days. I love writing for the line because the books are long enough to develop the depth and breadth of the story and characters. I love the variety of tone and setting, the subplots and unique secondary characters. The wonderful authors that write for the line provides such a variety of stories that there's something for everyone. Supers are...well...simply super! (couldn't resist).

On a personal note, I'm married, have three sons (all hero material like their dad), two grandchildren and look forward to adding another daughter-in-law to the family. I still work a regular day job, teaching GED subjects to homeless adults. My life is full with a loving family, challenging work, and my many friends and fans. The only thing I need now is more hours in the day!
